Educational Programs
IMAS offers classes and programs for children and adults throughout the year.

Programs for Adults:
The following programs and activities are included in General Admission and are FREE to IMAS Members. (Unless otherwise stated)

Recent adult classes have explored watercolor painting, printmaking, political cartooning, drawing with pencil and mosaics.

Gallery Talks:
Every piece of art has a story behind it. Come and enjoy a guided tour of the IMAS art galleries with our Education staff.
Every Saturday 11:30am & 3pm. Topics vary.

Art Hour:
This intriguing lecture series will give you a one on one educational experience with the IMAS Permanent Collection. Art Hour is for individuals who are interested in furthering their knowledge about art and who seek to explore the roots, results and influences of art. These lectures are primarily historical and will discuss the social changes, values, musical, artistic movements, technological advancements, scientific discoveries, and political shifts throughout the world and art.

Programs for Children:

Clownin' Around Workshop
Register your child today for the Clownin' Around Workshop to take place at IMAS on Sunday, July 17th from 2pm- 4pm. Registration is now open and is only $10 for IMAS Members and $12 for Non-Members.
In this exciting class your child will learn:
  • The Art of Face Painting
  • How to Creat Animal Balloons
  • Silly Jokes
  • How to Adopt a Character
  • and More!

This Summer!
  • Operation Imagination: Enroll your child today for this interactive summer camp that inspires, intrigues and delights children of all ages! Campers don't even realize they are learning because they are having so much fun! Each class has a maximum of 25 students. Our experienced Education Staff will supervise andguide your child as he or she explores, creates and learns.

  • IMAS Express: IMAS visitors of all ages are invited to expand their creativity through a wide array of recycled art activities. IMAS Express takes place every Tuesday through Friday from 1:30 - 3:30pm beginning June 7th - July 29th. (Not available June 28th - July 8th). Cilck here for the IMAS Express schedule.

The following programs and activities are included in General Admission and are FREE to IMAS Members. (Unless otherwise stated)

Every Week:

  • Drop in the Science Lab and Art Studio Tuesdays through Sundays for a variety of hands-on activities that change each week!
  • Family Fun Night: Join us every Thursday from 5-8pm for Family Fun Night and enjoy exciting & new interactive activities in the Science Lab and Art Studio each week.
  • Science on a Sphere (S.O.S) presentations: Join our Education staff for live presentations of Science on a Sphere every Saturday and Sunday. Included in General Admission.
  • Family Art Quest: Explore a part of your museum you may have not really noticed before, with our newest Family Art Quest Backpack Scavenger Hunt for families and children of all ages. Currently exploring Mosaics. Now available in English and Spanish!
  • Story Time Expand your imagination during our interactive Story Time on Saturdays at 11am & 2pm.

Educational & Cultural Events:
IMAS hosts special educational events and festivals at various times throughout the year.

When the stars align, IMAS hosts STARS Party several times during the year with the South Texas Astronomical Research Society (STARS). STARS Party features telescope viewings of planets and astronomy-themed activities.
