1. Director of Development
1. The museum currently has a position available for (1) full time Director of Development.
Position Summary:
The Director of Development is responsible for facilitating funding for the museum through activities including but not limited to: capital campaigns, gifts, planned giving, trusts, grants, sponsorships, and fund-raising events that support the mission of the museum. Working with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors, the position will manage the museums fund raising and marketing efforts as well to help build a development department as the organization grows.
The successful applicant will have demonstrated ability to:
- Identify individuals, companies, foundations, trusts and grants to initiate, develop and cultivate potential funding streams.
- Writes and submits grants.
- Develop and write fundraising proposals, working closely with the Executive Director and other members of the board and staff.
- Work with and supervise the museums visitor services staff whose responsibilities include, but are not limited to: admissions, membership appeals, renewals, and tracking, as well as grant proposal submission and grant reporting.
- Monitor status of grants, coordinating with project staff and prepare acknowledgment reports to donors.
- Oversee the museums marketing efforts including written and electronic materials describing the organization, its work and mission.
Skills and qualifications:
- College degree required, advanced degree preferred.
- Grant writing experience and proven track record.
- Minimum of 3 years of proven performance in fundraising success in professional capacity with non-profit organizations required.
- Proven oral, written, and organizational skills are critical, as are personnel management skills and ability to be a team player.
- Be able to take initiative and work independently, with attention to detail and ability to work autonomously in a deadline-driven environment.
- Be able to think strategically and creatively about opportunities to raise funds, manage competing priorities, and work well with colleagues.
- Experience with capital campaigns is desirable, as is a genuine interest in museums and the arts and sciences.
