PEDRO MEYER: Heresies

May 14, 2009 - September 28, 2009.

The exhibition, “Heresies,” by Mexican photographer, Pedro Meyer, will be on display at IMAS May 14, 2009 through September 28, 2009.

Artist Pedro Meyer is as renowned for his powerful and provocative photographs as he is for his pioneering work with digital imaging. Meyer’s photographs consistently test the limits of truth, fiction and reality and with the advent of digital photography in the early 1990s, Meyer evolved from a documentary photographer into a digital-documentarian who often combines photographic elements from disparate times and places to arrive at a different or higher truth. Meyer’s contention that all photographs, digitally manipulated or not, are equally “true” and “untrue” has been labeled “heretical” in the orthodox documentary photography community.

The exhibit is a continuation of IMAS’ International Exhibits Exchange Program as organized by IMAS Curator, Maria Elena Macias. Generously sponsored by the Mexican Consulate, the photographic works from “Heresies” are part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Tamaulipas (MACT).
