Science On a Sphere

Opened in September of 2008 as a permanent science exhibit

Science On a Sphere”, also known as S.O.S, is a revolutionary, state-of-the-art exhibit designed by the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Association (NOAA) to illustrate planetary and celestial systems like never before. In essence, it is entirely new view of our own planet and others. Digital projectors illustrate concepts such as plate tectonics, animal migration, hurricanes, tsunamis, and much more onto a surface of a 6 foot suspended sphere.

IMAS is excited to be the 1st institution in the State of Texas and only the 24th out of 61 venues in the world to offer our community the opportunity to see Jupiter, Saturn, Mars and over 200 more visualizations. The implications for sparking the imagination and creativity of our students and parents in the Rio Grande Valley are fantastic, and furthermore, the exhibit will indirectly encourage continued education with its seamless integration of science, technology and stunning visual display.

Join our education staff for live S.O.S.presentations every weekend. All S.O.S presentations are included in General Admission. See showing times below:

Saturdays: 12:00 p.m., 2:30 p.m. & 3:30 p.m.
